Panchetti power substation to be commissioned soon: TNPDCL chairman

Chennai: The ₹256.45-crore 230/110 kV substation coming up at Panchetti in Tiruvallur district will be commissioned within the next one or two months, with 95% of the construction work already completed, Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (TNPDCL) chairman and managing director J Radhakrishnan said on Saturday.During an inspection of the Panchetti 110 kV substation and the under-construction 230/110 kV facility, Radhakrishnan reviewed operational preparedness, infrastructure development and measures to strengthen power distribution in the fast-growing northern suburbs of Chennai. He said the new substation would enhance supply reliability and network stability in areas including Gummidipoondi SIPCOT, Thervoy Kandigai, Sothuperumbedu, Panchetti, Ponneri, Melur, Alamadhi and Periyapalayam.Later, he inspected the 400/230/110 kV substation at Alamadhi and reviewed summer load management and power distribution arrangements. He also visited the site of an underground cable fault on the 11 kV Padiyanallur feeder supplied from the Red Hills substation and directed officials to expedite repairs.The TNPDCL chairman further reviewed the recent outage caused by a fault at the Avadi Kamaraj Nagar substation and instructed officials to take steps to prevent a recurrence. He also inspected works to upgrade the existing 110 kV Avadi substation into a 230/110 kV facility at a cost of ₹102 crore and directed that the project be completed at the earliest.
