Experience tent stay, star gazing at Sethumadai

Chennai: Trek TN has introduced a tent accommodation experience in Topslip, Pollachi, pairing comfortable stays with three curated trekking options that suit a range of fitness levels. The spacious tents, each designed for three guests, include attached restrooms. The soft or easy route follows the scenic Perambikulam -Aliyar canal for an 8km walk, ideal for those seeking a relaxed outing. A moderate trail also covers about 8km, guiding trekkers toward the Pandaravarai peak trail, while adventure-seekers can take the tough route, a more demanding 10km ascent that reaches the summit of Pandaravarai.According to Vismiju Viswanathan, managing director of TN Wilderness Experience Corporation, this is the first deployment of tented accommodation of its kind in the area, marking a fresh chapter for nature tourism in the region. The Sethumadai camp, where the tents are based, will host a curated star-gazing programme arranged by an expert team from Coimbatore. Participants will be guided through night-sky observation, viewing the moon and constellations either with the naked eye or using advanced optical equipment. While leaving Sethumadai, visitors can also visit Kozhikamuthy elephant camp. There, guests observe the feeding routine, which features a specially prepared mix of ragi, horse gram, rice, mineral supplements, jaggery, sugarcane and coconut. The elephant-camp visit enriches the outdoor stay with close-up wildlife encounters, giving the overall retreat a fuller ecological dimension.Together, the tented stays, varied trail options, night-sky sessions and the elephant-camp visit create a layered nature retreat that aims to appeal to families, weekend explorers and serious trekkers alike, offering comfort, adventure and wildlife engagement in one package, say the TN Wilderness Experience Corporation team.
