Lioness Zoya, the crowd-puller at Jamshedpur zoo, dies

Jamshedpur: Zoya, the 16-year-old lioness at Tata Ziological Park, died on Wednesday. The African lioness was brought to Jamshedpur in 2012. She was suffering from a congenital health condition for several years.Despite receiving continuous medical care, her condition gradually worsened and proved fatal. Zoo director Naseem Akhtar said Zoya’s death was caused by a long-standing congenital ailment and advanced age. “She was our major attraction for the years,” he said.She was part of a group of five African lions, comprising two males and three females, which came here together. She is now the third female lioness to have died.
