IIT (ISM) enters QS World University Rankings for first time, placed in 701–710 band

Dhanbad: IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has entered the Quacquarelli Symonds QS World University Rankings for the first time in its 100-year history.In the 2027 rankings, released by Quacquarelli Symonds on Thursday, the institute was placed in the 701–710 global rank band.Among the 52 Indian institutions featured in the rankings, IIT (ISM) secured the 21st position and ranked 11th among the 13 IITs included in the list.“I am pleased to share that for the first time IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has entered the QS World University Rankings, marking a historic milestone for the institute. This achievement reflects the collective efforts and dedication of our faculty, students, officers, staff, alumni, and all stakeholders. It is a significant recognition of IIT (ISM)’s growing academic and research excellence on the global stage,” said Sukumar Mishra, director of the institute.He extended his heartfelt congratulations to the entire IIT (ISM) community and urged all to continue striving for even greater achievements in the years ahead.The institute’s debut was aided by strong scores in research impact and international collaboration. It recorded a Citations per Faculty score of 87.3 and an International Research Network score of 43.2. IIT (ISM) also achieved a Sustainability score of 57.5, reflecting its focus on responsible and inclusive growth.Rajni Singh, dean corporate communications said, “Entering the QS World University Rankings for the first time is a historic achievement for IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. It reflects the collective efforts of the entire IIT (ISM) community. As we enter our second century, this milestone inspires us to further strengthen our global visibility and strive for even greater excellence in education, research, innovation, and international engagement.In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, it was ranked first in India and 21st globally in Mineral and Mining Engineering.
