Chennai: The technical glitch in applying for revaluation of CBSE Class XII answer scripts and the subsequent delay in evaluation has affected admissions to the professional courses in the state this year.Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) committee has decided to postpone the release of the engineering rank list, which was scheduled to be released on June 29. Of 2,45,220 students who have paid fees for engineering counselling, 28,693 are from CBSE. “After the revaluation, we need at least a week to verify marks. We are yet to decide on the new date,” an official from the higher education department said.“Many students applied for Class XII revaluation in physics and maths. So, we expect a change in the ranks for many CBSE students. Though the revaluation of answer scripts ended last week, we don’t know when the results will be released,” said Mouni Prakash, a maths teacher. Some parents also complained that students were not able to get their preferred group in deemed universities and private universities. “My son got the 56,000th rank in the entrance exam of a deemed universities. The university is giving a preferred stream for students who got more than 90%. My son missed this by five marks and is awaiting the revaluation results,” a parent from a city school said. Some teachers said the on-screen marking system has put CBSE students at a disadvantage in professional course admissions. “Due to the on-screen marking and errors in evaluation, we expect fewer CBSE students to enroll in top engineering colleges this year,” said R S Shanthi, a physics teacher. The revaluation of state board Class XII students is also going on. More than 5,000 such students have applied to Class XII revaluation of answer scripts, and 2,12,892 students are participating in engineering counselling. “We will send the revised marks of state board students in the next few days,” an official from the directorate of govt examinations said.State govt also wrote to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), seeking an extension of the last date to enroll students in technical course, which was scheduled on Aug 14.With the NEET re-exam scheduled on June 21, top engineering colleges wanted the TNEA to schedule the engineering admissions after the NEET exam results to prevent seats from going vacant after medical admissions. “The engineering counselling is likely to be conducted in the second or third week of July. We expect NEET re-exam results before that,” TNEA secretary T Purushothaman said.Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) also extended the last date to apply for the BVSc and AH course by a week to June 23. “We have received 17,000 applications for BVSc and AH, BTech courses so far. We hope that BVSc counselling will not be delayed this year. Even if we receive the revaluation results after the preparation of the rank list, we will update the rank list,” an official from TANUVAS said.
