11 minors rescued from Patna-Ranchi Express

Bokaro: A total of 11 minors from Bihar’s Araria district were rescued by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, in association with Childline, from the Patna-Ranchi Express at Bokaro station around Tuesday midnight and produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).The children, aged between 12 and 17 years, were allegedly taken to Ranchi by two youths from their village, on the pretext of giving them railway jobs. Many cannot write their names, raising fears of trafficking, child labour and exploitation. The CWC sent them to a child care institution and will link them with a UNICEF’s passport to earning (P2E) programme.“Timely intervention prevented a potential trafficking situation. Continuous vigilance at railway stations is essential to protect vulnerable minors,” an RPF official said.“It was the joint effort of RPF, childline, district child protection unit, and the CWC that ensured the safe rescue of all minors,” said Bokaro DC Ajay Nath Jha.
