NCC training academy essential as state gets separate directorate: Experts

Sanjay Sahay| TNNRanchi: With the Centre deciding to establish a separate National Cadet Corps (NCC) directorate for Jharkhand, experts have stressed the need for a dedicated NCC training academy in the state to support the expected expansion of cadet activities. The Centre in mid-June announced an independent NCC directorate in Jharkhand to ensure focused coordination, better supervision and enhanced support for training and developmental activities.Sources said the number of NCC cadets in the state are likely to increase significantly once the new directorate becomes operational. In view of the anticipated growth, the state govt should establish a training academy to conduct advanced training programmes and large camps, they added. NCC authorities have already submitted a representation to the govt on the issue. At present, NCC imparts basic training to school and college students during regular academic hours. For group training involving students from multiple institutions, NCC depends on educational institutions to provide space, which is generally available only during summer and winter vacations. In several districts, finding premises capable of accommodating around 500 cadets for camps remains a challenge.Former brigadier and ex-NCC group commander Manish Tripathi said, “It is difficult to find special infrastructure and equipment in schools and colleges to ensure suitable training to the cadets. An academy would have the facilities including firing range, obstacles and tracks for a state-of-the-art training.”
