2,370 farmers learn soil health restoration methods at Ramgarh KVK

Ramgarh: The Ramgarh Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) has trained 2,370 farmers from 42 villages on soil health restoration under the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyaan. The farmers, of which 913 were men and 1,457 women, were trained in a month-long campaign which began on June 1 and concluded on June 30.The campaign reached the farmers through village-level awareness programmes, field demonstrations, and farmer–scientist interactions. Farmers were sensitized on Integrated Nutrient Management, balanced fertiliser application, green manuring, organic matter recycling, soil testing, moisture conservation, and efficient nutrient-use strategies, and enhanced their knowledge on restoring soil fertility, reducing cultivation costs, improving input-use efficiency, and adopting sustainable crop production practices.

The programme aimed to promote green manuring with dhaincha, a proven technology capable of reducing nitrogenous fertiliser requirements by 25–30% while enriching soil organic carbon, improving soil structure, and enhancing microbial activity.Kapil Ganjhu, a tribal farmer in Gargali village under Mandu block in the district said that he learnt scientific method about how they could conserve and restore soil which will help get better crop production.A woman farmer from Lodhma village under block of the district said that usually soil turns unfertile after getting one crop after using pesticides but with help of agri scientists and experts she learnt method of restore soil health which she could reap more crops“Khet Bachao Abhiyaan has demonstrated that scientific soil management practices, particularly green manuring and integrated nutrient management, can significantly reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers while improving soil fertility, crop productivity, and profitability of farmers,” Sudhanshu Shekhar, senior scientist and head at Ramgarh KVK, said.
