Ranchi: Finance minister and Congress MLA Radha Krishana Kishore has returned his security and official vehicles, alleging apathy on the part of police department in addressing his demands for adequate transport.Kishore accused DGP Tadasha Mishra of ignoring his letters seeking restoration of an additional vehicle in his convoy, which he said was necessary for his security detail. The issue came to light on Friday when the minister arrived at the Mega Sports Complex in Hotwar to inaugurate a rifle competition without any security escort or convoy. Kishore said that a total of 16 personnel from JAP, the Special Branch and Palamu police were assigned for his security.Kishore told TOI that on April 20, the state police headquarters, through a letter issued by the DSP (transport), asked him to return one of the four vehicles allotted to him by the govt.“Since then, I have written two letters to the DGP demanding restoration of the vehicle, as the existing fleet was not sufficient to ferry six personnel each. The DGP didn’t even reply to my letters,” he alleged. The minister also directed his department’s secretary to issue a show-cause notice to a joint secretary, alleging that the officer had directly written to him, asking him to return a vehicle on the basis of the communication from the police headquarters. He added that the issue was between a minister and police, but a junior officer had no business writing to him directly.“I could have easily spoken to the CM to raise the issue and the vehicle problem would have been solved, but my action now is against the way officers are behaving. Being a finance minister, I am also aware about the security and other protocols better than anyone else,” Kishore said. The minister, who hails from a Left-wing extremism-affected region, added that he had moved without security even before becoming a minister.Referring to a recent murder in Jamshedpur, Kishore said, “Imagine someone being dragged from a PCR van and assaulted, leading to death. This speaks about the policing system under the DGP.”The police headquarters has not issued any response on the matter.
