Daltonganj: A zonal commander of the banned CPI (Maoist), identified as Baijnath Singh alias Chandan Kharwar, 52, was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment by a Latehar court on Friday, police said.Additional district and sessions judge (first) also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Singh. He was sentenced in a case registered in 2023 with Herhunj police station under the IPC, Arms Act and Section 17 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav said in a statement on Saturday.He added that Singh, who carried a Rs 10 lakh reward on his head, hails from Metlong village under Manika police station limits.The SP said that Singh was caught from the forest in Sikeed in 2023 when he and his cadres were planning to carry out a crime. Police recovered 2 Insas rifles, 370 live cartridges, 7 magazines and 2 walkie-talkies from Singh’s squad during the combing operation then.
