Delhi hit-and-run: Speeding Mercedes kills scooty rider near Jahangirpuri; driver arrested

NEW DELHI: A 29-year-old man was killed after his scooty was allegedly hit by a speeding Mercedes near Jahangirpuri Bus Stand on Delhi’s Outer Ring Road. Police have arrested the driver of the luxury car.The accident took place on July 5 near the foot overbridge at Jahangirpuri Bus Stand on the GTK Bypass towards ISBT. Police said the victim, Deepak, a resident of Mangolpuri, was found critically injured and taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial (BJRM) Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.During the investigation, a PCR caller informed police that a Mercedes bearing a Haryana registration number had hit the scooty and fled the spot.Police traced the vehicle and, after serving a notice under Section 133 of the Motor Vehicles Act to its registered owner, identified Ansh Pratap Singh as the driver at the time of the accident.An FIR has been registered at Jahangirpuri police station under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway, police said.
