Woman ‘assaulted by kin’ on way to Sahibganj court

Dumka: A 40-year-old woman of Shukrabasini village was allegedly assaulted with a blade, blinded with chilli powder, and robbed near Kumharia while she was on way to the Rajmahal sub-divisional court in Sahibganj district on Wednesday, police said.Officer in-charge of Ranga police station Akhilesh Kumar Yadav said, “Aklima Bibi, in her FIR, alleged that she was travelling in an e-rickshaw when she was waylaid by her son’s father-in-law, Ejabul Sheikh, and another man, identified as Abdul Sheikh, who arrived on a motorcycle.”“The two accused drove away the rickshaw driver and assaulted her. They threw chilli powder into her eyes and slashed her left hand with a blade. They then fled with her court-related documents, gold earrings, and cash. After being alerted by passersby, ASI Paramjeet Ram reached the spot and took her to the Barharwa community health centre,” he added.Her son, Safaul Sheikh, told police that he had married Ejabul‘s daughter six years ago. A family dispute between the two families is pending before the Rajmahal court. A month ago, his father-in-law had assaulted him after calling him home and had also attempted to poison him. A complaint was lodged at Radhanagar police station, but no action has been taken till date, he further alleged.“An investigation is under way. Raids are on to arrest the accused persons,” OC Yadav said.
