JNAC ready with rescue-and-relief ops during flood

Jamshedpur: With the monsoon turning active and rainfall intensifying across the state, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has stepped up preparations for rescue-and-relief operations in anticipation of possible flash floods.The areas under civic body have been divided into nine sectors and teams deployed in each sector. Several relief camps have also been identified to accommodate residents in case of flooding.Reviewing the measures, deputy municipal commissioner (DMC) Krishna Kumar said, “The region is likely to receive heavy rainfall in the coming days, raising the risk of low-lying areas getting submerged. Hence, all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure prompt rescue, relief, and rehabilitation of affected residents. Additional govt and private schools besides community halls may be used as temporary relief shelters if the flood situation worsens.“Two control rooms have been activated to coordinate emergency response. The main control room would function from the JNAC office and city manager Jyoti Punj would serve as the nodal officer. The second control room would operate from Tarun Sangh Club in Shastrinagar, Kadma, where city manager Joy Gudia would render his services as the nodal officer,” the DMC added.The identified flood-prone areas include Parvati Ghat (Sundari Basti) in Bistupur; blocks 1 to 5 of Shastrinagar, Pratima Nagar, Bhatia Basti, Ramjanam Nagar, Shyam Nagar, Ram Nagar, Bage Basti, and Haad Godam in Kadma; Roop Nagar, Jahira Colony, Nirmal Nagar, and Ashiana in Sonari; besides Babudih, Bagunagar, and Kalyan Nagar in Baridih.The relief centres are Sardar Madho Singh Memorial School in Bistupur, Nirmal Sadan, Baldwin Farm Area School in Kadma, ECC Flats community hall, Tarun Sangh Club, Nirmal Mahato Community Hall, Kaushal Vikas Bhawan, Bharat Seva Sangh School in Sonari, DAV Public School in Patelnagar, and Vikas Bhawan in Bagunhatu.The JNAC has also arranged essential rescue equipment, including life jackets, rescue boats, rescue tubes, ropes, divers, and adequate lighting at vulnerable locations. “Relief centres will be equipped with essential supplies such as candles, matchboxes, torches, mattresses, pillows, bedsheets, adequate drinking water, and food,” Kumar added.
