Jharkhand & Bihar cops seize illegal liquor worth Rs 1.5 crore in Hazaribag

Hazaribag: In a joint operation, Jharkhand and Bihar police seized a truck carrying 1,190 cases of illegal Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), worth an estimated Rs 1.5 crore, and arrested three alleged smugglers at Rasoiya Dhamna village in Hazaribag district on Tuesday.Officials claimed it was the biggest seizure of illegal liquor in Hazaribag district. The accused were identified as truck driver Rakesh Kumar, 27, SUV driver Khirodhar Saw, 32, and Sunny Kumar, 28, all residents of Barhi.Addressing the media, Barhi SDPO Radha Prem Kishore said the liquor consignment was being transported to Bihar with the help of local smugglers. “An SUV without number plates, which was being used as an escort, was also seized,” he said.Police said the operation was launched early on Tuesday based on a tip-off to Hazaribag SP Aman Kumar from Bihar CID about a truck carrying a huge quantity of illegal liquor parked at the village under Barhi police station limits.A joint police team led by Kishore reached the spot and found the truck along with the escort vehicle. One suspect fled into nearby bushes after spotting the police, while the drivers of both vehicles attempted to escape. “The vehicles were intercepted near Rasoiya Dhamna toll plaza with the assistance of Bihar police’s narcotics team,” the SDPO said.During questioning, the accused allegedly admitted that the liquor was meant to be smuggled into Bihar.
