Ranchi: As part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, election officials on Tuesday organised Chunav Pathshalas at 29,571 polling booths across Jharkhand, strengthening voter verification and coordination between election functionaries and political parties. The awareness-cum-interaction sessions witnessed the participation of booth level officers (BLOs), booth level agents-2 (BLAs) of recognised political parties, and members of civil society. At a polling booth in the city’s Piska More area, BLO Ravi Shekhar and another around 20 people participated in the programme.“During the Chunav Pathshala, the list of ASDD voters was shared with BLAs-2 and other attendees informing them that the voters have not been mapped so far. As Ranchi is an urban centre and many people migrate here from various areas and often change their address, tracing the absent voters might pose a challenge to us,” the BLO said.He said that around 200 people in his area have been marked as ASDD voters so far.At another booth in the city’s Purulia Road area, BLO Abhay Jha held the Chunav Pathshala with the help of BLAs and other members.“In my booth, 159 people have been identified as ASDD voters. Out of that, 49 are marked as dead voters, 95 shifted and the rest are absent and duplicate voters. The list of the voters was shared with BLAs and other attendees,” Jha added.Meanwhile, chief electoral officer (CEO) K Ravi Kumar attended the Chunav Pathshala in Lohardaga district on Tuesday. While attending the programme, the CEO said that the SIR exercise of the electoral roll is only for eligible Indian citizens. “Non-Indians should not participate in this process, as this is a punishable offence. If a non-Indian receives an enumeration form, it should be returned to the BLO without filling or signing it, with proper reasons,” he added.Chunav Pathshala marked the second meeting between BLOs and BLAs, with the first meeting held on June 30. The third and last meeting will be held on July 22, the CEO added.
