11-year-old dragged 1.5 km by school van in Gopalganj

Patna: An 11-year-old boy was hit by a school van and dragged for around 1.5 km in Gopalganj district on Wednesday. The incident took place between Yadavpur Mor and Banjari Mor under Town police station area. The boy is undergoing treatment and is in a stable condition, police said.According to eyewitnesses, the boy was trapped beneath the van and dragged along the road. Passers-by raised an alarm and tried to stop the vehicle. Seeing a crowd gather, the driver abandoned the van and fled the spot. Local residents immediately rushed the critically injured child to the Sadar Hospital.The injured boy was identified as Eshan Kumar (11), son of Vijay Gupta, a resident of Saraiya Ward No. 4 in Gopalganj town.SDPO (Sadar) Pranjal said the boy was crossing the road on Wednesday morning when he was hit by the school van. He was initially taken to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital. Although his condition is stable, he has been referred to a medical facility in Gorakhpur for specialised treatment.After providing primary treatment, doctors at the Sadar Hospital referred him to Gorakhpur Medical College in view of the seriousness of his injuries.Town SHO Praveen Prabhakar said police had seized the school van, but the driver was absconding.He said the exact cause of the accident was yet to be ascertained and it was not clear whether it resulted from over-speeding or negligence.Police added that the family was currently focused on the boy’s treatment. An FIR will be registered after they submit a written complaint.No arrests had been made till the filing of the report, and further investigation was underway.
