Ranchi: As the 10-day mega fair at the Jagannathpur temple site in Dhurwa began on Thursday on the occasion of Rath Yatra festivities, city police have turned on high alert to keep extra vigil in the area to curb instances of petty crimes ranging from eve teasing to pick-pocketing, snatching, among others, by rolling out a special team comprising 40 police personnel.They would be stationed at various places at the fair in plain clothes. “All of them are equipped with wireless systems. Officer in-charge of Dhurwa police station is responsible to supervise their operations,” said an official.Deputy superintendent of police Amar Pandey said, “The involvement of local and out-station criminals in committing crimes including pick-pocketing during the fair can’t be ruled out. Police are vigilant against these criminals. Our plain-clothed personnel will mingle with the crowd to keep a watch.”Pandey further informed that a significant number of women police personnel and volunteers are also in place to prevent eve-teasing. “They are positioned near the shops and inside the temple premises. We appeal people to be alert and inform the police help desk and control room if they see any suspicious activities,” he added.This apart, the administration has also mobilised around 20 magistrates and 2,000 police personnel, including district police, Jharkhand Armed Police, Indian Reserve Battalion and the traffic personnel, for all-round security and crowd management.
