Hours after July 21 events, netas of both TMC blocs get ED notices

Kolkata: Hours after separate Martyrs’ Day events, netas of both Trinamool factions received ED summons. While Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra, a part of the rebel TMC camp now, received a summons in the municipal job scam probe on Tuesday night itself, Mamata Banerjee loyalist and TMC treasurer Subhasish Chakraborty received one on Wednesday in connection with the agency’s probe into the party’s accounts.Mitra’s family — his wife, sons and daughter-in-law — received ED summons in connection with the case before the MLA crossed over to the rebel camp. On Wednesday, Mitra’s younger son Subhrup went to the CGO Complex to keep his date with the central agency. The MLA himself is likely to be present for the ED call on July 29, sources said.Investigators have reason to believe that there were anomalies in the recruitment process at Kamarhati Municipality. Last month, ED searched eight locations in connection with the case. These included Mitra’s houses in Bhowanipore, Kalighat, Joka and Dakshineswar.Mitra’s lawyer Niladri Bhattacharya said, “The family will cooperate fully with the investigating agencies. There is nothing to hide. Let the law take its own course.”In the notice sent to Subhasish Chakraborty, meanwhile, the former MP has been asked to appear at the ED office this week. ED suspects that money was laundered through Carewell Aviation — a company engaged for helicopter services for Trinamool netas. Earlier, ED summoned two directors of the company and recorded their statements. According to sources, Chakraborty has sought some time from the central investigating agency.Chakraborty earlier got into an argument with CID when the state agency went to Mamata Banerjee’s residence in connection with the MLA signature forgery case.
