Ex-Nawada CO gets jail in graft case

PATNA: A special vigilance court in Patna on Wednesday convicted Bola Paswan, then circle officer of Roh in Nawada district, in a 2014 bribery case and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment.Judge Atul Kumar Singh of the Special Vigilance Court held Paswan guilty under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The court awarded him three years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 7, and four years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(d) of the Act. Both sentences will run concurrently. In default of payment of fine, he will undergo one month of simple imprisonment.According to the prosecution, complainant Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Samretha village in Nawada, alleged that Paswan had demanded Rs 4,000 to settle a land dispute related to the installation of a door, window and chajja. On Oct 15, 2014, vigilance officials caught Paswan red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe amount and arrested him on the spot.
