Dhanbad: Admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act in 83 private schools have been delayed after the district education department detected large-scale discrepancies in documents uploaded on the BPL admission portal, putting more than 500 applications under scrutiny.The questionable submissions include forged income certificates, birth certificates, Aadhaar numbers, and residential details allegedly used to show that children lived closer to preferred schools, officials said.In several cases, certificates bore registration numbers but did not have valid token numbers. Such applications have been kept on hold till fresh verification.Dhanbad district superintendent of education (DSE) Shalini Dungdung said, “All doubtful documents have been examined and parents told to submit valid records within the stipulated time, failing which applications would be cancelled.”The department suspects that some parents deliberately used forged papers to secure seats for their children in reputed private schools under the RTE quota.The verification exercise has disrupted the admission calendar. Though the 2026-27 academic session began in April, the district education department was yet to release the final selection list under the RTE scheme due to the continuing and strict scrutiny of applications and supporting documents.The department said the list will follow only after verification fully ends.
