Mumbai: To ensure timely resolution of complaints and disputes involving street vendors, BMC has decided to constitute a three-member Grievance Redressal and Dispute Resolution Committee. The committee will be headed by a serving or retired City Civil Court judge and will function for the next five years. Civic officials said the Town Vending Committee is also expected to be constituted within a week.The BMC has already issued QR code-based identity cards to around 48,000 eligible street vendors in Mumbai. The Town Vending Committee will be responsible for allotting designated vending spaces to these eligible vendors.To ensure that complaints related to licences, vending locations, penalties and other disputes are resolved promptly, the civic administration has decided to establish the grievance committee. A public advertisement inviting applications for the committee was issued on Tuesday.The Grievance Redressal and Dispute Resolution Committee will include two experienced professional members in addition to the chairperson. Applicants for these positions must be between 35 and 65 years of age, hold a degree from a recognised university, and have experience at the level of Additional Secretary or an equivalent post in the govt or a local self-govt body.Candidates must also have at least 10 years of experience in social work or in fields related to street vendors, as stipulated under the eligibility criteria.
