Buxar: A tractor driver triggered chaos and a police probe after driving his vehicle on a pedestrian footbridge near the Itadhi railway crossing in Buxar, where it got stuck at a narrow bend. A video of the bizarre incident has since gone viral on social media.The incident occurred amid traffic disruptions caused by the closure of a nearby railway overbridge. Officials said vehicular movement on the bridge was suspended after structural damage was detected. The overbridge, built at a cost of Rs 26.40 crore, developed cracks in a slab near pier number 5 within days of its inauguration, forcing authorities to stop traffic.With the railway level crossing permanently closed and the overbridge unavailable for vehicles, commuters have been relying on longer alternative routes. Police suspect the tractor driver attempted to avoid the detour by using the footbridge, which is meant exclusively for pedestrians.The plan backfired when the tractor and its trolley got stuck at a narrow bend on the bridge. The unusual sight drew a crowd of onlookers, many of whom recorded videos that were later widely shared on social media.Eyewitnesses said the incident could have resulted in a serious accident had the vehicle lost balance on the elevated structure. After some effort, local residents and police personnel managed to reverse the tractor and remove it safely from the bridge. The driver then left the spot with the vehicle.The incident has also raised questions about the role of police personnel present at the site. Some eyewitnesses claimed officers were present when the tractor entered the footbridge, while the viral video shows policemen assisting in reversing the vehicle.Guddu Chaudhary, in charge of the Mufassil police station outpost, said the video is believed to have been recorded on Friday. “We are trying to identify the tractor and its driver from the footage. Appropriate legal action will be taken once he is identified,” he said.Railway Protection Force (RPF) in charge Kundan Kumar said an inquiry has been initiated into the incident.
