Union minister reviews Bhalswa cleanup, asks MCD to speed up fresh waste processing

New Delhi: Union housing and urban affairs minister Manohar Lal Saturday inspected Bhalswa landfill to review the progress of legacy waste remediation and directed Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to expedite fresh waste processing to accelerate the site’s cleanup.During the inspection, the civic body informed the minister that 99 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of legacy waste had been remediated at the dumpsite as of July 31.According to MCD, the remaining legacy waste at Bhalswa is expected to be cleared by Oct 15, while waste accumulated at the site up to March 2026 is targeted to be processed by Dec 31.Reviewing the on-site progress, Manohar Lal directed officials to fast-track the newly awarded project to process fresh waste arriving at the landfill, ensuring incoming waste is scientifically managed and does not slow the remediation of the legacy waste mound.
