Jamshedpur: Seraikela-Kharsawan police have rescued around 40 unemployed men from Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal who were allegedly being lured by a cybercrime racket into routing illegal funds through their bank accounts in return for commission.Acting on a tip-off, police on Tuesday evening brought nine men, aged between 20 and 35, from a hotel in Adityapur to the police station for questioning. After verifying their statements, officers contacted their families and sent them home.Police subsequently traced several others staying at hotels and lodges in the area and advised them to return home.Investigators said the youths were contacted through social media and promised earnings running into lakhs without any effort. The racketeers allegedly offered them 6% to 10% commission on transactions routed through their accounts.Adityapur police station officer in-charge Anjani Kumar Singh said the youths had been divided into groups and lodged at different hotels while they waited for money to be deposited into their accounts. No funds had been credited even after three days when police intervened.Several of the victims were debt-ridden and apparently unaware that their accounts could be used to route proceeds of cyber fraud, police said. Such transactions could have exposed them to serious legal consequences.Police withheld the identities of the rescued men. Efforts are on to identify and arrest the suspected operators of the racket.
