Hazaribag: Family members of a woman who died after she delivered a stillborn at the Barkagaon community health centre (CHC) on Tuesday protested on Wednesday, alleging medical negligence and demanding action.Khushboo Devi (23), wife of Vikas Rana and resident of Mohudi village under the Barkagaon police station limits, had been admitted to the CHC on Monday for delivery.Father of the deceased Khushboo, Mukhlal Rana, said, “My daughter was healthy when we admitted her to the Barkagaon CHC after she went into labour. Her condition deteriorated due to the negligence of the doctor and a nurse. She suffered excessive bleeding during delivery. She delivered a stillborn baby on Tuesday and her condition deteriorated. She was referred to the Hazaribag in a critical condition but died on the way. We demand a fair investigation into the incident and strict action against those responsible.”The family members brought the body back to the CHC and demonstrated on the hospital premises, accusing doctors and nursing staff of negligence. Barkagaon BDO Jitendra Kumar Mandal and CO Manoj Kumar met them around 3am on Wednesday and assured them of action.“One member of the family would be offered employment through outsourcing and efforts would be made to secure financial assistance. An inquiry would be conducted into the incident and steps would be taken to improve healthcare services at the CHC,” medical officer in-charge Dr Avinash Kumar assured the family.Doctor Anju Prabha, who was on duty at the CHC, said, “Khushboo was admitted in labour with a haemoglobin level of around 9 gm/dl and delivered a stillborn baby. They were referred to Hazaribag after her condition worsened despite treatment.”The family also submitted a written complaint to police. The bodies were sent to the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.Civil surgeon Dr Ashok Kumar said, “A committee has been constituted to investigate the deaths. Action would be taken against anyone found guilty of lapses.”
