Kolkata: Trinamool Congress alleged “political high-handedness” after a former councillor’s office on Sadananda Road in ward 83, Kalighat, was ransacked. On Tuesday night, Trinamool MLA Kunal Ghosh claimed on Facebook that BJP-backed miscreants had attacked and vandalised the office of former councillor Prabir Kumar Mukhopadhyay in an attempt to seize it.“BJP hooliganism in Kalighat… Mamatidi has strongly condemned the attack. A police complaint has been lodged,” Ghosh wrote. Police later sealed the site and deployed personnel to prevent trouble.BJP rejected the allegation, saying the structure was an illegally extended shop built on the footpath. The office of Rashbehari MLA Swapan Dasgupta released a Kolkata Municipal Corporation notice directing removal of the encroachment within 15 days under the KMC Act and shared photographs of the structure.Mukhopadhyay said the notice had been served only that morning.“Will we not get time to respond… Why should the property be sealed? A section of BJP leaders worked in cohorts with a promoter’s lobby,” he told TOI.
