Patna: A city-based builder was arrested on Tuesday night in connection with five alleged property fraud cases involving more than Rs 5 crore. The accused, Bhushan Singh, was sent to judicial custody after being produced in court on Wednesday, police said.According to Sri Krishna Puri SHO Jitendra Rana, Singh is engaged in the property business and is accused of collecting money from several people on the promise of providing land but neither delivering the promised plots nor returning the money.A total of five cases have been registered against him at Sri Krishna Puri police station over the past few months. Police said the alleged fraud amount across all complaints exceeds Rs 5 crore.One of the complainants, Udayant Kumar, alleged that Singh took Rs 26.90 lakh from him about four years ago on the assurance of providing a plot of land. “He neither provided the land nor returned the money. That is why I lodged a complaint,” Kumar told police.Police said Singh was repeatedly served notices to join the investigation but failed to appear and did not cooperate with investigators. Following this, a court issued an arrest warrant, based on which he was taken into custody.As news of the arrest spread, Singh’s supporters and lawyers reached Sri Krishna Puri police station and attempted to secure his release. However, police said the action was carried out in accordance with the court’s order and no pressure was entertained.People close to the accused alleged that notices had not been properly served on him and that he was arrested without due intimation. Police, however, maintained that multiple notices had been issued and remained unanswered.According to police sources, Singh had expanded his business operations to Muzaffarpur, where he was involved in commercial ventures, including a showroom.Investigators said they are examining other complaints linked to the builder and may seek his remand for questioning in connection with the remaining cases.
