Divy Khare|TNNBokaro: Incessant rainfall over the past 24 hours has led to waterlogging in several parts of the district, affecting traffic movement and causing inconvenience to residents, exposing several vulnerable pockets.One of the worst-affected spots is the CZ Gate, City Centre Sector-4 in Bokaro Township, where rainwater accumulated on the road, making it difficult for vehicles and pedestrians to pass. Waterlogging in key markets and residential areas slowed traffic and forced many pedestrians, students and office-goers to wade through water.A few two-wheelers and cars reportedly stalled on inundated stretches, adding to commuting difficulties during peak hours. Residents said recurring waterlogging during the monsoon points to the need for regular desilting of drains and improvements to the city’s drainage network.“Water tends to accumulate whenever there is prolonged rainfall. We hope the concerned authorities will take steps to improve drainage so that commuters do not face the same problem every monsoon,” said Ran Kumar Sharma, a local resident in Bokaro Township.Another resident Dinesh Kumar said, “Timely cleaning of drains and a permanent drainage plan for vulnerable locations would help reduce waterlogging and make commuting easier during the rainy season.”Residents have appealed to the Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) management, Chas Municipal Corporation and the district administration to undertake regular drain cleaning and long-term drainage solutions to minimise disruptions.On the other hand, the water level at Tenughat Dam stood at 846.40 ft (257.98 m) at 6 am on Thursday, against the maximum conservation level of 852 ft, according to the Flood Control Cell. The reservoir recorded 19.40 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours. Authorities said two radial gates and one under-sluice gate will remain open to regulate water discharge, with an outflow of about 2,120 cusecs, while officials continue to monitor the reservoir’s status.
