CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu govt has reconstituted the law commission for a three-year term, entrusting it with the tasks of suggesting measures to plug loopholes in existing laws and making recommendations on interstate and Centre-State relations.The reconstituted commission will be headed by former Manipur high court chief justice D Krishnakumar as chairman. Former Madras high court judge RMT Teekaa Raman, former additional chief secretary TK Ramachandran and former law department secretary A Arunagiri have been appointed as full-time members.Former district judges P Mohan Doss and R Govindarajan have been appointed as part-time members, while an officer in the cadre of secretary, law department, will serve as the full-time member secretary.According to the law dept’s GO dated Aug 7, the commission has been asked to suggest suitable modifications or amendments to plug loopholes in existing laws and recommend social and economic legislative measures.It will also suggest ways and means for interstate relations and Centre-state relations and make recommendations for judicial and administrative reforms aimed at improving and expediting procedures.The commission has further been tasked with suggesting amendments not only to state laws but also to Central laws applicable to Tamil Nadu, besides recommending rationalisation of Acts and laws in the state.It will consider references made by the govt on legislation involving more than one department and matters relating to law and judicial administration.
