Gumla: Police on Saturday busted an Odisha-based gang and arrested 11 members allegedly involved in recent robberies targeting jewellers in Palkot and Ghaghra block headquarters in Gumla district.Police recovered 69.9 grams of gold, 1.43 kg of silver, Rs 1.70 lakh in cash, 3 country-made firearms, 11 cartridges of different calibres, seven mobile phones and two master keys allegedly used to open motorcycle storage compartments and break locks.Gumla SP Harish Bin Zaman said police received specific information about the presence of six to seven criminals near a brick kiln on Bilingbira Road under Palkot police station limits.Acting on the tip-off, an SIT led by Basia SDPO Shivshankar Marandi conducted a raid and arrested seven suspects. The team included Chainpur SDPO Shruti, Gumla SDPO Suresh Prasad Yadav, Basia and Sisai circle inspectors Gulson Bhengra and Vinay Kumar, and Palkot and Ghaghra police station OCs Ankit Raj and Mohan Kumar Singh, respectively.“Based on disclosures made by the seven accused, four others — two each allegedly involved in the robberies in Palkot and Ghaghra — were also arrested,” Zaman said.The accused were identified as R Arjun alias Awla Arjun, 40; Akshay Kabadi, 25; Yeshu Das, 25; Kishun Das, 27; Awla Shekhar, 35; Arjun Das, 29; Michael Sawan, 30; Manoj Das, 26; and Bhola Das, 20 — all residents of Purbakote in Korai block of Odisha’s Jajpur district. The other two accused are Karan Netam, 28, of Mahasamund in Chhattisgarh, and Mekla Yeshu, 29, of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.Police said the gang had also operated in other states. Further raids are under way to identify and arrest its other members.
