Ranchi: Chief minister Hemant Soren will campaign for Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidates in the West Bengal assembly polls, his party Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) said on Thursday. Soren, who is the JMM president, will hit the campaign trail from April 18.“Hemant Ji will be in southern parts of West Bengal, which shares its borders with Jharkhand, from April 18 to April 20. His programmes are scheduled in Purulia, Bankura, Midnapore and Jhargram districts. JMM is firmly in support of TMC in the ensuing polls, and our workers will work hard to stop divisive forces like BJP,” JMM central general secretary and party spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya said. JMM announced to support TMC last week. While the party was in favour of contesting the election in tribal reserved seats in West Bengal, it did not field any candidate after a discussion with the TMC leadership. The assembly election in West Bengal will take place in two phases on April 23 and April 29.In Assam, which voted on April 9, JMM however fought alone after seat sharing talks with Congress failed.JMM also criticised Modi govt for politics over women’s reservation. On Thursday, the three-day special session of the Parliament began for passing the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill to tweak the women’s reservation law. This apart, two other bills, the Delimitation Bill and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, were also introduced. “In 2023, when the women reservation bill was passed by Parliament, all opposition parties had supported it and demanded the govt to implement it in 2024 polls.However, govt then said that they will conduct caste census in 2025 and delimitation in 2027 before implementing it. Now, it suddenly brought another Constitution amendment bill. What is funnier is between 2023 till date, the Act which was passed did not get implemented. And now, another bill has been brought to amend it,” he said.
