Thieves decamp with cash and jewellery worth Rs 30L from Chas house and shop



Bokaro: Thieves allegedly broke into a house and an adjoining medical shop near Mahavir Chowk in Chas in the early hours of Sunday, escaping with cash, gold and silver jewellery and mobile phones worth an estimated Rs 30 lakh, police said.The incident occurred barely 500 metres from Chas police station, triggering concern among residents over night-time security and patrolling in the locality.“The burglars forced open a window on the southern side of the house and entered the premises between 2 am and 5 am, when family members were asleep on the upper floor. The thieves allegedly took around Rs 70,000 besides gold jewellery, including rings, necklaces, chains, bangles, lockets, earrings, and a maang tikka. Silver ornaments and mobile phones were also reported missing. The total value of the stolen jewellery and other belongings is estimated to be around Rs 30 lakh,” said the house owner.Chas ASP Vedant Shankar said, “Police are examining footage of the CCTV cameras installed in and around the locality to identify the suspects and trace their movements. Investigators have also collected possible evidence from the crime scene.”Locals said, “Anti-social elements and drug users often gather in the area. Police should take strict action against them and increase night patrolling.”
