Ranchi: Election Commission will begin hearings from Aug 24 for around 14 lakh electors whose details remain unmapped during the claims and objections period. The exercise began on Aug 5 and will continue until Sept 15.According to the draft electoral roll, these voters are in the unmapped category. Notices are being issued to them, asking them to appear for hearings and submit documents required to complete enrolment.Notices will also be sent to voters whose entries contain anomalies. This category covers around 45 lakh electors in Jharkhand.“Another 3.5 lakh people, who fall under the demographic similar entry (DSE) category, will receive notices at a later stage,” chief electoral officer (CEO) K Ravi Kumar told TOI.He said the DSE category includes people whose names are registered at multiple locations — in a city, elsewhere in Jharkhand or another state.Kumar said the hearing process is expected to take 50 working days across the state. The exercise is intended to rectify discrepancies, complete pending enrolments and ensure that the final electoral roll contains only verified and eligible voters.“Issuing notices and disposing of claims and objections is a crucial step in making the electoral roll pure, updated and error-free. At this stage, applications and data received during enumeration and the claims and objections period are examined and verified for inclusion of names, corrections or other necessary action,” Kumar said. The CEO’s office has released an educational video on filling Form 6 and the declaration form on social media. “The video is meant to help train booth level officers (BLOs), BLO supervisors and other stakeholders involved in elector registration,” Kumar said.
