Bokaro: Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Wednesday said the state has immense potential to become a major archery hub, citing the success of several players from Jharkhand in national and international competitions.Inaugurating the National Ranking Archery Tournament at Mohan Kumar Mangalam Stadium in Bokaro, Gangwar said Jharkhand is widely recognised as the “Land of Archery” and has no shortage of sporting talent, especially in rural and tribal areas. With proper opportunities, coaching and guidance, he said, young archers from the state can make their presence felt on the world’s biggest sporting platforms.“Archery is not merely a sport of shooting arrows with a bow. It is a discipline that demands concentration, patience, balance, discipline and unwavering commitment towards the target,” Governor said.Linking the sport with life, Gangwar said archery teaches that when the goal is clear, the mind remains focused and efforts are consistent, the path to success becomes increasingly defined. He also underlined archery’s deep roots in Indian tradition, referring to Lord Ram, Arjuna and Eklavya, for whom the bow and arrow symbolised dedication, concentration, self-control and commitment to a goal.Gangwar said modern archery has carried that legacy forward by combining scientific training methods, advanced technology and international-level competition. He stressed the need to identify sporting talent early, particularly in villages and tribal regions, and support aspiring athletes with qualified coaches, modern facilities, equipment and adequate exposure to competitions.“No talent should be left behind because of a lack of resources,” he said, urging collective efforts to create better opportunities for young sportspersons.Governor welcomed about 900 players, coaches and technical officials from across the country to Jharkhand for the tournament and wished them success in their sporting careers. He also congratulated the Jharkhand Archery Association, Bokaro District Archery Association and all organisations and individuals involved in organising the event. The tournament is expected to give archers a strong national platform while highlighting Bokaro’s growing stature as a venue for major sporting events.
