Chennai: The Tamil Nadu police on Wednesday informed the Madras high court that necessary permission will be provided to Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) to conduct a statewide two-wheeler campaign demanding abolition of NEET.Recording the submission, Justice V Lakshminarayanan adjourned hearing on the matter to Aug 19.According to DK, it had planned a two-wheeler campaign from July 30 to Aug 2, demanding the abolition of the NEET, which they said discriminated against poor, and students from rural areas. They also opposed the reservation provided for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in education and public service. On July 18, the organisation submitted an application to the DGP office seeking permission for the campaign. However, the DGP instructed them on July 27 to approach the respective local police stations. While all preparatory arrangements were completed, DK was on July 30 informed of the denial of permission, the petitioner said. Aggrieved, the organisation’s vice president Kali Poongundran approached the court seeking to quash the rejection order and direct the state govt to permit the campaign.
