Mumbai: The state govt approved Rs 1.27 crore for the mounted police unit of the Mumbai Police, and the money will be utilised to buy horses, saddlery, related equipment, veterinary and medical examination expenses for horses, remuneration of trainers and other such expenses.In 2019, the govt approved the creation of a Mounted Police Unit with 30 horses for the Mumbai Police Force.Subsequently, the govt approved the transfer of a sanctioned strength of 38 police officers and personnel to the Mounted Police unit, comprising one police sub-inspector, one assistant police sub-inspector, and 36 police constables. A permanent stable in Marol, Andheri, has been set up for the mounted police unit.
