Dhanbad: Over 1.16 lakh voters across Dhanbad district will be served verification notices after their names were marked as unmapped in the draft electoral roll, published earlier this month. The voters, who are spread across several assembly constituencies in the district, have their names included in the draft electoral roll, but their details have not yet been mapped.“Mapping exercise under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will be completed in four phases. In the first phase, voters whose names appear in the electoral roll but whose details have not been mapped will be identified and called for verification and fresh mapping,” Dhanbad sub-divisional officer Lokesh Barange said.Voters can approach their nearest polling station, panchayat building, the office of block development officer (BDO) or circle officer (CO). Documents submitted by the voters will be verified during the hearing. In the second phase, voters whose mapping has already been completed but whose documents contain errors or have been found to be incorrect. Such cases will be identified and examined before further action is taken. “The whole SIR exercise would be carried out in four phases and could take slightly longer than the initial timeline due to the volume of verification work,” SDO said.He stressed that the administration was taking steps to ensure that no eligible voter was removed from the electoral roll. The objective, he said, was to complete the SIR process in a transparent and clear manner while giving voters an opportunity to present the required documents and rectify discrepancies.Officials have been instructed to facilitate voters during the verification and hearing process so that genuine voters do not face unnecessary difficulties.
