Jamshedpur: Five members of an alleged organised gang, which was involved in a series of snatching and thefts in the city recently, were arrested late on Wednesday. Stolen mobile phones, jewelleries and other valuables were recovered from them, police said on Thursday.The accused were identified as Tushar Kalindi (25), Sunny Kalindi (23), Laxman Bagti (23), Akash Dutta (23), and Sawan Devgam (20). All of them are residents of Bagunhatu. They were arrested near Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical Hospital (MGMMCH), where they had allegedly gathered to plot a criminal act.Police said a team from the MGM police station received a tip-off from Patamda Range DSP Dayanand Kumar about a possible gathering of the gang members. The team, led by the officer in-charge of MGM police station Sachin Kumar, cordoned off the area and apprehended all the accused.“During interrogation, the accused confessed of operating as a gang and committing thefts and snatching mobile phones, wallets, jewellery and vehicles in different police station areas of the city,” SSP Ehtesham Waqarib said on Thursday. They were remanded to judicial custody on Thursday.Police recovered 31 mobile phones, gold and silver jewellery, two stolen scooters and a motorcycle from their possession. “The arrests have helped police solve around half a dozen cases reported in the MGM and Sitaramdera police station areas over the past few months,” the SSP said.Akash, Sawan and Sunny have cases of murder, theft and offences under the NDPS Act have been registered against them at five different police stations in the city, SSP added.
