Case registered over QR code cash distribution by AIADMK

Chennai: Madras high court on Friday disposed of a plea moved by a lawyer alleging distribution of money through QR code by AIADMK in Chennai Harbour constituency, as ECI informed the court that an immediate inspection by the flying squad of ECI found no such material as alleged and, that an FIR has been registered and a probe initiated. Recording the submission, the first bench of Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan disposed of the plea moved by advocate K Raveendran.According to the petitioner, AIADMK candidate for Harbour constituency R Manohar distributed cash tokens in large numbers as a gift to celebrate former chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami’s birthday, which falls on May 12.“The tokens are distributed with QR codes to each voter holding a valid family card in the constituency. It is being distributed with a promise that voters will get 10,000 in the event Manohar wins the election,” Raveendran said. The petitioner wanted the court to direct ECI to seize the tokens and take appropriate action against the candidate.
