Jharkhand police to distribute 627 SUVs and 847 motorcycles among districts

Ranchi: The state police have begun distributing four-wheelers and two-wheelers among districts under the second phase of their vehicle modernisation drive.Police headquarters said 627 SUVs and 847 motorcycles will be provided to districts in this phase to enhance patrolling, rescue operations and law-and-order management, particularly in remote and sensitive areas.The latest rollout follows the first phase launched by chief minister Hemant Soren on March 13, when 636 SUVs and 849 motorcycles were flagged off from the Vidhan Sabha premises. Ranchi received the highest allocation in the first phase with 88 four-wheelers and 73 motorcycles, followed by East Singhbhum (51 SUVs, 89 motorcycles), West Singhbhum (40 SUVs, 47 motorcycles) and Dhanbad (40 SUVs, 45 motorcycles).Under the ongoing distribution, Khunti district has received 14 SUVs and 12 motorcycles. In Khunti, SP Rishava Garg and other officers flagged off the newly allotted vehicles from the district police office on Monday.“The vehicles will be distributed among police stations, enabling better patrolling in far-flung areas. The district is also expected to receive 18 more motorcycles shortly,” Garg said.Simdega SP Shrikant S Khotre said the additional vehicles would strengthen operations against inter-state criminal networks and improve emergency response capabilities. He added that the newly inducted vehicles had already helped police save five lives in road accident cases in recent days.
