Dhanbad: IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has taken a major step towards creating a cleaner, greener and more sustainable campus by becoming the first institution in Dhanbad district to receive a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection.The PNG supply was formally inaugurated on Saturday at the institute’s 150 Quarters, also known as the Giridih Road Side (GR) residential area. The inauguration was jointly performed by IIT (ISM) director Sukumar Mishra and Deepti Ladies Club president Sakuntala Mishra in the presence of faculty members, officials, GAIL Gas Limited representatives and campus residents.Mishra described the initiative as a significant achievement for both IIT (ISM) and Dhanbad. He said, “PNG is an eco-friendly, safer and more economical energy source compared to conventional LPG cylinders. The initiative reflects the institute’s commitment to developing a cleaner and sustainable campus.”Registrar Prabodh Pandey said that initiative would provide residents with a convenient and reliable cooking fuel option while improving the campus environment.The rollout is being carried out in phases. Around 180 quarters are simultaneously being connected, while the institute plans to extend PNG connectivity across the entire campus by September. Hostels and other eligible facilities will subsequently be covered. In total, more than 647 PNG connections are planned.
