Two get 20-yr RI for gang rape in Buxar

Buxar: A local court in Buxar on Wednesday sentenced two men to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment each for gang-raping a woman and making her photographs viral on social media.First District and Additional Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Uday Pratap Singh, convicted Deepak Ram and Kanhaiya Gond under Section 376(D) of the IPC and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on each.The court directed that the fine amount be paid to the survivor as compensation and ordered additional imprisonment in case of default.According to the prosecution, the woman, a resident of Patelwa village under Buxar Industrial police station area, had gone to Deepak Ram’s house on Sept 14, 2023, for traditional treatment as she had been unwell. Kanhaiya Gond was also present there.The prosecution alleged that the woman was administered an intoxicating substance, following which she became unconscious. The two accused then raped her. She regained consciousness around 2am and escaped before informing her husband about the incident.The case further stated that Deepak Ram photographed the woman and later circulated the images on social media, causing social humiliation.Following a complaint lodged on Sept 17, 2023, police investigated the case and submitted a chargesheet under Section 376(D) of the IPC and Section 67(A) of the Information Technology Act.After examining oral and documentary evidence, including biological samples produced during the trial, the court convicted both accused. They were remanded to judicial custody to serve their sentences and informed of their right to appeal against the judgement.
