Ranchi: Two unidentified masked men allegedly opened fire at a petrol pump in Khunti town on Wednesday night and left behind a pamphlet in the name of the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), demanding ₹10 lakh in extortion, police said.The accused arrived at the petrol pump, which is located near Bhagat Singh Chowk and belongs to businessman Amit Sahu. The pamphlet warned Sahu to pay the amount within two days or face serious consequences. Sahu was not present at the outlet at the time of the incident, police said.A police team led by Khunti sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Mangal Singh Jamuda recovered an empty cartridge case and the pamphlet.Khunti SP Rishabh Garga said, “Preliminary investigation reveals the involvement of anti-social elements rather than an extremist network. It is possible that miscreants used the name of the banned outfit to create fear and extort money from the businessman. However, we are investigating the case from all angles.”Sahu told police that said he received similar extortion threats in the name of PLFI on several occasions in the past. He also claimed that his house in Parwal had earlier come under attack.
