Thane: A woman fell from a packed suburban local when it halted between Diva and Mumbra stations on Thursday morning and sustained minor injuries. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, triggering criticism over overcrowding on Mumbai’s suburban railway network.The incident occurred on the 7.56am Dombivli-CSMT local. Heavy overcrowding is suspected to be the reason behind the fall.Confirming the incident, senior inspector Dharamendra Aware of Thane Railway Police said they were trying to trace the woman, who is believed to have sustained minor injuries after falling on the tracks. The incident has not yet been officially reported at the police station, he added.CR’s chief public relations officer Swapnil Nila said, “The lady had fallen down from a stopped train, and had minor injuries as per available information. Further inquiry is being conducted whether the lady had met with any altercations?”A detailed account of the incident is expected to be released once the injured woman is traced and her version of events is recorded, railway police said.The viral video has drawn criticism from commuters over overcrowding on suburban trains, with many pointing to regular delays that often worsen the situation during peak hours. Delays can result in passengers accumulating at stations and subsequently travelling in increasingly crowded trains.
