Dumka security guard killed by loader at coal siding, probe under way

Dumka: A 55-year-old private security guard was mowed to death by a loader at the coal dumping site of Dumka railway station siding late Wednesday, with his son witnessing the fatal accident.The deceased, identified as Mantosh Kumar Khirhar, a resident of Tarajora village under Jama police station limits, had been working at the coal siding for around three years. His son, Amitosh Kumar Khirhar (25), was also on duty at the site when the accident occurred. Amitosh said, “I saw the loader run over my father and could not save him.”Mantosh sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital (PJMCH), where doctors declared him brought dead.Workers questioned the safety arrangements at the siding, which is handled by BGR Mining and Infra Ltd. Labourers demanded stricter safety protocols, including sufficient lighting, better supervision, and designated work zones to prevent such accidents.The body was sent for post-mortem examination. Investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident, police said.
