MUMBAI: Mumbai is celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi on Monday, September 14, with the festival bringing changes to the working schedules of schools, colleges, banks and financial markets.While several institutions will remain closed for the public holiday, essential services and public transport will continue to operate. Mumbai’s metro services will also run beyond their usual hours to help devotees travel during Ganeshotsav.What is open in Mumbai today?Metro services: Maha Mumbai Metro has extended services on Metro Lines 2A, 7, 9 and 2B until 12:30am from September 14 to 25. The last train will depart at 12:30am, instead of the usual 11pm, from Andheri West and Dahisar East on Line 2A, Gundavali and Kashigaon on Lines 7 and 9, and Maharashtra Nagar-Mandale and Chembur on Line 2B. The metro network will also operate 10–15 additional trips every day during the extended period.Trains and buses: Mumbai’s suburban local train services and BEST buses will remain operational today. Commuters can use the regular public transport network, although passengers should expect increased crowds and possible changes in traffic movement around major Ganpati celebration areas.Hospitals: Hospitals and emergency medical services will remain operational across Mumbai despite the Ganesh Chaturthi public holiday. Emergency departments, ambulances and critical-care services will continue to function as usual, while patients with scheduled appointments or non-emergency procedures may check with their respective hospitals for any holiday-related changes.Courts: Courts across Mumbai will remain closed on September 14 on account of Ganesh Chaturthi. The holiday applies to both public and private-sector banks in Mumbai, although digital banking, ATMs and online payment services will continue to be available.Stock markets: Indian stock markets will remain closed on Monday, September 14, for Ganesh Chaturthi. Both the NSE and BSE have declared the day a full trading holiday.Commodity market: MCX will remain closed during its morning trading session from 9am to 5pm. Trading will resume at 5pm, with the evening session continuing until 11:30pm, or up to 11:55pm.
