Kolkata: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s publication ‘Swastika’, in its recent issue, has cautioned BJP in Bengal against an alliance with any other party or opening its doors for lawmakers from outside. Terming the “friendship” as one between a lion and a fox, the ‘Swastika’ article said BJP had enough strength in Bengal. In the Sept 14 issue of RSS’s Bengali weekly, the author quoted Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya and said there was no other political force left in the state that could take BJP’s flag down.“The opposition has evaporated like a piece of camphor after the 2026 polls. Although their combined vote is nearly 52%, these opposition parties will not be able to retain their vote share in the forthcoming polls… The opposition, in terms of political strength, is no match for BJP. A lion cannot befriend a fox,” the article said.Referring to the forthcoming civic polls in 2027, the article said apart from CPM and Congress, Trinamool had broken into pieces. “They are left with a few MLAs and MPs. They are knocking on every door to save their skin. As the civic polls advance, their infighting is becoming clearer,” the article said. While it did not name the factions of Trinamool, including the rebel MPs who have joined NCPI, the article took a dig at those MPs trying to cosy up to BJP.The magazine, in its earlier editions, highlighted the decline of Left forces in Bengal and other forces trying to capture the opposition space. In its Aug 10 issue, ‘Swastika’, in an article, claimed Left Front had never bagged more than 40% votes after 1977. But the parties in opposition were trying to remain afloat using trivial issues. ‘Swastika’ had earlier urged BJP to follow the Tripura strategy and destroy Left forces.Meanwhile, senior BJP netas have started to voice their concerns against any probable alliance. While Bhattacharya has said the party will fight the civic polls alone, panchayat minister Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday said he had been hearing rumours about lawmakers joining from other parties. “Only time can give the answer to that,” he said.
