Jamshedpur: Deaths of three people in two separate accidents involving heavy vehicles within three days have renewed demands for strict enforcement of no-entry restrictions for commercial vehicles on city roads.A 27-year-old biker, Sagar Gope, was killed after a speeding trailer ran over him near Sunsunia Gate on the Burmamines-Sakchi road on Tuesday night. His motorcycle got trapped under the vehicle’s rear wheel and he was dragged for nearly 40 metres before the driver stopped. Gope was rushed to Tata Main Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.The accident sparked protests, with residents alleging that heavy vehicles routinely violate restrictions. JD(U) member Durga Rao, who joined the protest, said, “Heavy vehicles are not allowed before 11 pm. How did a trailer reach the Burmamines-Sakchi road around 10.40 pm?”On Saturday around 7.30 pm, a man and his 10-year-old son were crushed to death by a trailer on the Bhuiyadih-Agrico road under Sidhgora police station limits.Following the fatalities, Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu and former BJP district president Dinesh Kumar questioned the movement of heavy vehicles during no-entry hours and sought stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.Residents also blamed illegal roadside parking of trucks and trailers for worsening congestion and increasing accident risks. Social worker Manoj Mishra said heavy vehicles were frequently parked near Tata Motors South Park Gate, along the Golmuri-Burmamines and Burmamines-Station roads, and on Marine Drive.Deputy SP (traffic) Sriniraj Kumar said traffic personnel had been directed to strictly enforce no-entry rules and other regulations. “Plans are under way to create additional parking facilities for heavy vehicles,” he said.Under existing rules, heavy commercial vehicles are allowed on city roads only between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm, 3 pm and 5 pm, and 11 pm and 5 am.Dhalbhum SDO Arnav Mishra also chaired a road safety meeting on Wednesday to review accident-prone areas, traffic flow, parking arrangements, encroachments and heavy vehicle movement. Officials were directed to conduct joint inspections and enforcement drives, and adopt an integrated approach involving engineering, enforcement, education and emergency response to prevent accidents.
