Kolkata: Bidhannagar Police have directed Durga Puja organizers across Salt Lake, Lake Town, New Town, and the Airport area to prioritize smooth transit and access for elderly residents living near pandals during Durga Puja.Senior citizens face the greatest inconvenience as they cannot easily navigate long detours, climb over barricades, or manoeuvre around street obstructions, said cops.A police officer noted that in previous years, multiple noise complaints were reported, particularly from the Lake Town area, where high-decibel DJs disrupted local neighborhoods. Following chief minister Suvendu Adhikari’s explicit prohibition on DJ systems, police personnel are enforcing this mandate with heightened vigilance alongside standard crowd management protocols.“As part of the preparations for upcoming Durga Puja 2026, coordination meetings were organised by Eco Park, Technocity and Bidhannagar South police stations with key stakeholders and Durga Puja committees. The meetings were attended by senior police officers, including Jyotirmoy Roy, DCP (New Town), Laltu Halder, ADCP, Bidhannagar, Utsha Sreemani, ACP, New Town, and Subhankar Biswas, ACP, North Zone, Bidhannagar, along with representatives from the traffic wing, HIDCO, NKDA, WBSEDCL, fire & emergency services and Durga Puja committees. Discussions focused on public safety, traffic and crowd management, fire safety, electricity supply, puja guidelines and essential civic arrangements, with the collective objective of ensuring a safe, peaceful, smooth and hassle-free Durga Puja celebration across the area,” police posted on social media.
