Kolkata: The Lalbazar brass has asked traffic guards across the city to change naka locations each night in the run up to Durga Puja following drink-drive accidents. “Besides the two regular nakas, each traffic guard is keeping one or two flying squads that are changing spots and nabbing intoxicated riders,” explained a Lalbazar officer.The order follows after an incident of drink driving ended in a multi-vehicle collision on Monday night on Kalicharan Ghosh Road under Sinthi Police Station, leaving one truck driver severely injured and three vehicles heavily damaged.According to police, the incident occurred around11.40 pm on Monday.The offending driver, Siddhanta Mukherjee, was driving a car in a heavily intoxicated condition. Mukherjee first crashed into a cab coming from the opposite direction and the impact of the collision pushed the vehicle into another private car following behind.The double crash severely damaged the front portions of all the three cars. The driver of a truck, Md Irfan Qureshi, suffered injuries in the impact and was taken R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.Following a suo-motu complaint, Sinthi Police Station registered a case under sections 281, 125(b), and 324(2) of the BNS alongside sections 184 and 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
